Why Snowbirds Migrate To Florida For The Winter?- By: Jayna Leach

Description : Have you ever heard of “Snowbirds?” Snowbirds are people who leave cold, northern winters by escaping to Florida. Why do snowbirds migrate to Florida? Florida is a great place to spend the winter there are fewer tourists, there is plenty of sun for everyone, and there are plenty of things to see and do.

Below is a list of benefits to being a Snowbird.

Warm Weather:

When the rest of the country has temperatures below freezing, Florida has relatively mild temperatures. The average temperature in December is around 60 or 70 degrees, which allows Snowbirds to keep their winter coats at home and wear t shirts during the day.

Theme Parks:

Florida offers many theme parks that stay open all year long, and they tend to be less crowded in the winter when students are in school. With Disney World, Dinosaur World, Animal Kingdom, Discovery Clove, Sarasota Jungle Gardens, Universal Studios and much more there plenty of opportunities to get outside and have fun at an amusement park.

Panama City Beach:

A popular place for Snowbirds to stay is at a Panama City Beach. Panama City Beach has many condos for rent along its 27 mile stretch of sandy beaches. It also has go kart tracks, mini golf courses and amusement parks, such as Cobra Adventure Park, Zoo World, and Coconut Creek Fun Park. In addition, this city has cruise tours, an aquarium, a zoological conservatory, and relaxing beach communities for fine dining and shopping.

Destin:

Destin, Florida is a relaxing destination for Snowbirds. The city is located on the Emerald Coast of Florida and has some of the whitest beaches in the world. Destin has many golf courses such as the Kelly Plantation Golf Club, the Emerald Bay Golf Club, and the Regatta Bay Golf and Country Club. Destin Commons, an outside shopping mall, has a cinema, numerous restaurants, and shopping. Close by is the Silver Sands Outlet Mall, which claims to be “the nation’s largest designer outlet center.” With so much to offer, Destin condominiums are an ideal place for Snowbirds to hibernate for a couple of weeks.

National Parks:

While it would be too cold to want to spend a day outside in other places, Florida has many national parks for the outdoor explorer. There is the Canaveral National Seashore with 24 miles of undeveloped island, the Big Cypress National Preserve with subtropical animal and plant life, and the Timucuan Ecological and Historial Preserve. The Everglades National Park is a top choice among travelers. The Everglades National Park is the largest subtropical wilderness in the U.S. and has extensive fresh and saltwater areas. The Park also has Gatorland Theme Park, where you can see wildlife such as alligators, turtles, snakes, fish, and exotic birds and learn about alligators, crocodiles, and other animals.

Location and Affordability:

Florida has warm weather and many attractions for visitors, but what makes it a popular destination is its location and affordability. A flight from New York to Florida is about 3 hours and the flights are non stop. Snowbirds want to escape the North’s winter, and Florida is much closer than Mexico or the Caribbean.

Florida is also affordable. With condo deals available at reasonable prices, anyone can afford to visit Florida in the winter.
